Pork and Pigskin Continued

Img_1602_2 I made it out to the Murphysboro Barbecue on Friday. I got to hang out with the Hawg N Dawgs Team for a bit to see how things were going. I couldn't believe how many people have big, fancy set-ups. It turns out that showmanship is a category to be judged on. I think I like that, it made everything pretty entertaining to look at. I was there too early to actually get any BBQ though. I may just have to go to 17th Street and eat some ribs later this week. I did enjoy the smells of Murphysboro while the cook-off was going on though. My only problem with the whole BBQ event is that I haven't been able to find out who won. I have heard that the Tower Rock team from Murphysboro took the Grand Champion award, but passed the right to enter the Memphis in May honor to Super Smokers of Eureka, Mo (they came in second) because the Tower Rock team had already won an entry to Memphis. The Super Smokers also won second place overall and fourth place in the shoulder category. But those are all the awards I can find, please let me know who else won. I need to know where to get my BBQ

Img_1608On to a competition I do know the winner of; SIU beat Arkansas-Pine Bluff, 58 to 3. GO DAWGS!!!! We are undefeated so far and I am crossing all my fingers that we keep on this path. I don't know how those guys did it out there, it felt so hot out that I couldn't even sit and watch the game. I did enjoy a hotdog at the Tailgate though. I do love going to Tailgates. Getting all excited before a game, having some good food and a cold drink. I can't believe how big that hotdog was, or that I actually ate the whole thing. I'm going to hope that the weather cools down just a bit before the next game; not only for my sake, but that of our football players too.

I haven't checked my calendar to see what all is coming up this week. I do know that Friday will be a Noon Concert in Murphysboro. They always start at Noon at Smysor Plaza in Murphysboro, but I don't know who is playing. I will share the information if I get my hands on it. Let me know what else is going on in the area.

If you don't know the game I'll give you the basics; you pay $1, you pick a duck out of the metal tub, you do what is written on the bottom of the duck, you get a t-shirt. Acually that is the long version also. I know I will be out there, I hope to see you too.

A New Beginning

Here it is folks; the very first Silkworm blog. This will be updated at least once per week, maybe more often as exciting things happen. This will be a spot to find out what is going on in the area, what is going on and "The Worm" and a place for you to let us know what you think of Silkworm. All comments are welcome, though inappropriate language will not be tolerated. I hope you enjoy reading this as much as I will writing it.

Where to start? Well, the Murphysboro Apple Festival was this past weekend and it was a ton of fun. I actually started my involvement on Thursday as I helped out with the auctioning off of apple pies and apple butter after that competition.

It was a lot of fun. Friday was the Kiwanis Club's Children's Pet & Hobby Parade. I didn't get to hang out, but the pictures in the paper made it look like a ton of fun.

Saturday was the Grand Parade, and you can bet your socks that I was in that.

We had a good time and threw out a ton of candy. I hope we didn't give anyone cavities. Since I was in the parade I didn't get to watch it, I would love to see your best parade picture from this weekend, so send them to me.

I was so busy with the Apple Festival that I didn't even make it out to the Main Street Pig Out in Carbondale. I will have to make up for that by going to the BBQ Cook-off in Murphysboro this weekend. Details to come.
